Lance Betteridge gets to bring smiles to people's faces for a living. When he pulls up to their homes in that bright blue delivery truck, his customers can't wait for the delicious meals and savoury treats he is about to bring forth. "There are some long hours on this job, but it's worth it," said Lance, who delivers Goodlife Foods products throughout the Flin Flon area. "You get to know people and become part of their routine. You know how their kids are doing. It becomes more than just a customer-salesman relationship." In November, the friendly Flin Flonner assumed ownership of the Goodlife Foods delivery service for this area. Lance has his customers covered with a wide selection of frozen goods, from ice cream treats, corn dogs and pizza to fruit medleys, pies and seasoned beef burgers. "We literally cover everything from full course meals to quick lunches to treats," he said. "There is no minimum order. It can be anything from a single pizza to a box of ice cream bars to a full-size five-pound lasagna." Many residents will recognize Lance's delivery truck as the old Schwann's ice cream truck. Goodlife Foods has taken over numerous Schwann's outlets, filling the public's desire for high-quality, home-delivered foods. "Home delivery is the basis of the business," said Lance. "It provides the customer with the convenience of being able to shop out of their homes. And the delivery is a free service that's included." Despite carrying dozens of items, enough to fill a 32-page catalogue, Lance is still best known for one product Ñ his heavenly ice cream. "It's the rich content, the creaminess, the lack of preservatives," he said of his most popular item. "It's like the ice cream you used to have mom make at home." Lance currently has about 1,200 customers in the Flin Flon-Creighton area, Cranberry Portage, The Pas and as far into Saskatchewan as Deschambault Lake. More customers are always welcome.
