A deal has been struck for the Co-op to purchase Advance Automotive in Creighton and install cardlock gas pumps there next year. The arrangement will see Advance's Tim Hanna move his automotive repair shop to the Co-op Gas Bar on Main St., hoping to re-open there this Monday. Starting this week, the Co-op will operate its new acquisition as a regular gas station. It's expected the former Advance location will be replaced next spring when construction starts on the new cardlock outlet, which is set to open in the summer. Like the existing cardlock outlet on Timber Lane, Co-op members from across Western Canada will fuel up simply by swiping their gas cards at any time of the day or night. "There has been a lot of interest in us pursuing the Saskatchewan side, so the board has acted," said Co-op general manager Greg Baribeau. The new location was also appealing, he said, because it is large enough to allow for future commercial expansion if warranted ? not an option at the Main St. location. See 'Plans' P.# Con't from P.# The deal was completed after nearly two years of discussion, investigation and negotiations. Preliminary plans call for the eventual demolition of the Advance building, a familiar sight to motorists entering and leaving Creighton on the so-called Creighton Freeway. The move will result in the elimination of some Co-op jobs, as the cardlock will not require attendants.
