Good Friday turned deadly in Northern Saskatchewan and Manitoba with murders in Pelican Narrows and Thompson. An altercation outside a Pelican Narrows home at about 2:30 a.m. resulted in the death of 26-year-old Michael Custer, a resident of the First Nations community. RCMP have charged a 17-year-old male with second degree murder. The accused, whose identity cannot be released due to the Youth Criminal Justice Act, remains in custody and was scheduled to appear in video court in Pelican Narrows yesterday. The cause of Custer's death had not been released as of press time. Pelican Narrows RCMP investigated with the assistance of the Prince Albert Forensic Identification Section, Saskatoon Major Crimes Unit and the Prince Albert Police Dog Service. Meanwhile, three men stand accused of killing a teenager from The Pas while he was in Thompson later the same day. Trevor Mercredi, 29, and Howard Pagee, 19, both of Thompson, and Wilfred Cook, 18, of The Pas have been charged with second degree murder. Police allege the men were responsible for the death of Stanley Mackechnie, 17, whose body was found in a town house complex in the northern city. An autopsy was conducted in Winnipeg over the weekend, but police are not yet releasing the cause of death. The suspects were scheduled to appear in Thompson Provincial Court yesterday. Thompson RCMP were assisted in their investigation by the Winnipeg Serious Crime Unit, the Thompson Major Crime Unit and the RCMP Winnipeg and Thompson Identification Services.
