A dead raven found in Flin Flon last week will be tested for West Nile Virus, but Manitoba Conservation has no reason to believe the bird carried the disease. A City employee found the raven in a Main Street back alley last Friday and quickly turned it over to conservation officers. Conservation is now keeping the bird frozen until it is sent to Winnipeg for testing within the next two weeks. "We don't expect anything to come of it," said Natural Resource Officer Brian Wotton. Local conservation officers have voluntarily sent dead members of the crow family to Winnipeg in both 2002 and 2003, with all of the tests coming back negative. "We sent four or five out of here last year," said Wotton. Wotton said he is unaware of any cases of West Nile Virus being found in Northern Manitoba. The province asks Manitobans to report dead crows, blue jays, magpies or ravens to Health Links by phoning 1-888-315-9257.
