Manitoba's official opposition is assailing the NDP government for approving child-care fee hikes this year and next. The Progressive Conservatives say the province's plan could mean parents pay as much as $520 extra in 2013 for each child below school-age. The PCs call it 'part of the NDP's plan to stick the bill for 12 years of financial waste and mismanagement to Manitoba families.' 'The NDP's hypocrisy is incredible,' said Family Services Critic Bonnie Mitchelson. 'They claimed the deficit was 'on track' before the election, but now that the election is long gone and Selinger's billion-dollar hole has been revealed, Manitoba families will pay the price. Fees for child care will be going up, hurting Manitoba families who are already paying more property taxes and more for hydro.' The NDP recently announced that in 2012 and 2013, early learning and child-care fees now paid by parents will be allowed to rise annually by no more than 35 cents a day for school-age children and no more than $1 a day for younger children. _ Compiled from a PC Caucus of Manitoba news release
