The United Steel Workers (USW) Local 7106 will have a familiar face at the helm.

Incumbent president Tom Davie reaffirmed his spot in the union’s vote, held on April 30. Davie defeated challenger Alan Chatfield with more than 70 per cent of the total vote.

Three trustee positions were also filled in the election. Ron Breedon, Lori Guitard and Lisa Tower each earned trustee spots, while candidate Mitch Winterton finished out of the running.

The release of the trustee election results was delayed by almost two weeks, due to a close vote. USW Local 7106 election chair Steve Collins said the final results required a recount for precautionary purposes.

“This was a very close election,” he said.

About 1,300 members of the union were eligible to vote in the election. USW is the largest union operating in Flin Flon, with around 600 members eligible to vote in the election.

Voting was held in nine different communities, including in Flin Flon, Cranberry Portage, Snow Lake, Reed Lake mine, Cormorant, The Pas, Moose Lake, Swan River and Neepawa.
