Twenty-eight Snow Lake young people counted themselves among those lucky enough to take part in a dance and theatre camp held in the community during the last week of July. The X-Company Dance Camp rolled into town on the 26th and their three instructors put the kids through some very high energy and enjoyable paces over the next three days. Recreation director, Stephanie Foy, explained that the instructors were very outgoing and were a lot of fun to be around. "They taught the kids a number of dance and self defense moves," she said. "Included in these was Xtreme dance combat which is similar to 'stomp' but with a Polynesian flare. It sounded great when the kids were all moving in time and making the music they were dancing to. There was some Hip Hop dance that had the students doing body rolls and learning 'the worm' and Funky Jazz, which is a funky version of traditional kick turns and isolations." Foy said that the participants were also taught some Kung Fu; however, it was explained that it was not to be used aggressively on anyone. Participants were also schooled in some improv theatre and filmmaking. "This included stage combat, which was done to teach the kids how to fake punches and kicks on stage without getting hurt," said Foy. "The films that the students made, were later shown at a presentation for their parents." Foy added that the classes were all offered with encouraging instruction and positive music.
