Many Flin Flonners were saddened to learn of the recent passing of long-time former resident Andy Galambos. He was 95.
Friendly and good-natured, Galambos, who died Dec. 18 in Victoria, BC, had many friends in the Flin Flon area.
He was closely associated with the Willow Park Curling Club, a facility he helped build.
Galambos curled at Willow Park from the time of its opening in 1950 until he left the community in 2007.
“Many people told me I was a super reader of the ice,” Galambos once told The Reminder. “I could play on crooked ice and by the second end I could read it. It helped a lot.”
Over the nearly five decades Galambos spent at the rink, he enjoyed not only playing the game, but watching it as well. Other curlers knew him as a frequent spectator.
Galambos first became interested in curling because he felt there wasn’t much else to do in Flin Flon.
“We didn’t have television or anything like that, so we curled,” he told The Reminder.
Galambos was predeceased by his wife, Dora, who passed away in 1994.
