The Bob Bensen rink of Flin Flon swept away the competition at the inaugural Aseneskak Casino Classic in The Pas over the weekend. The team of Bensen, Ryan Watt, third, Trevor Watt, second, and Kelly Davis, lead, defeated the Bryan Derbowka rink 7-3 in Sunday's final to capture the top prize of $8,000. "You had to play extremely well. We came through and my teammates played excellent," said Bensen. Twenty rinks, mainly from Northern Manitoba, competed in the four-day tournament held at The Pas Curling Club. The Bensen rink received plaques to go along with their cash prize. Aseneskak Casino general manager Jon Gauthier said that the tournament went well and that it will become an annual event. Up next for Bensen and his teammates will be the Northern Floater Bonspiel in The Pas at the end of the month.
