Doug Gourlay Sr. was honoured on Saturday, November 6 at the Willowpark Curling Club for receiving his Honourary Life Membership into the Manitoba Curling Association. There were about 50 people in attendance. The afternoon started off with Jamie Switzer, president of Willowpark, congratulating Doug on behalf of the curlers at Willowpark as well as those present for the ceremony. Doug began his curling career curling at the Uptown Curling Club in 1947, later moving to Willowpark in 1952. He didn't start skipping until about the 1980s. Doug has curled in many bonspiels as well as in many Provincials Playoffs representing Willowpark and Flin Flon. Doug stated though, that the highlight of his curling career was winning the Legion Provincials in 1983 while curling with his son Rod, Randy Beever and Garth Thompson. Doug continues to curl in the Hot Stove League at Willowpark. On behalf of all curlers in Flin Flon and Creighton, congratulations Doug!
