Culture Shock coming to Flin Flon

Rest up, music lovers: this year’s Flin Flon Culture Days promises to be a full weekend of tunes. It will all begin this Friday, Sept. 25 with a night of diverse live music hosted at three unique venues.

Rest up, music lovers: this year’s Flin Flon Culture Days promises to be a full weekend of tunes. It will all begin this Friday, Sept. 25 with a night of diverse live music hosted at three unique venues.

“There are venues in town that promote and support live music all the time, from the Home Routes program, to Johnny’s, to our local pubs,” says Flin Flon Culture Days organizer, Crystal Kolt. Kolt says that Culture Days is an opportunity for people to sample different genres and musical spaces in the community.

The first concert of the night will be an intimate and interactive musical event called Local Roots, taking place from 7 to 9 pm at 183 Merton Blvd, home of Doug McGregor and Ann Ross.

At 9 pm, a special event called Culture Shock will begin at two venues. Johnny’s Social Club will host a Wood ‘n’ Wire showcase, highlighting talented local musicians in more of an “unplugged” style show that will wrap up at 11 pm.

At the same time, The Hooter in Creighton will launch Rock Blast at the Hooter, which will include a packed lineup of live bands from 9 pm to 2 am.

Culture Days-goers can either sample music, dropping in at various events, or settle in and enjoy one show, Kolt notes.

In future years, Culture Days organizers hope that Culture Shock will evolve into a kind of pub-crawl, where audiences can tour the community’s live performance spaces together.

All three shows, like all Culture Days events, will be free to the public.
