Flin Flon RCMP are investigating recent vandalism to a car and a dangerous attempted theft of gasoline. On Thursday, March 4, a 1994 Ford Aspire parked outside The Unwinder was damaged. One or more vandals had smashed several beer bottles on the vehicle, which was left with a number of dents as well as a smashed-in window. In a separate incident during the late hours of Friday, March 5 or the early hours of March 6, one or more individuals attempted to siphon gas from a vehicle parked at Twin Motors on Highway 10A. The effort was unsuccessful due to the stop valves in the gas tank, police said, but the culprit(s) did not give up. The person or persons then attempted to pilfer the gas by cutting a hole in the bottom of the gas tank, but ended up losing most of the liquid on the ground. Police stressed that this incident could have caused serious injury, as cutting or drilling a gas tank can ignite the gas. Police ask anyone with information on either of these crimes to contact them at 687-7488 or the anonymous Manitoba Crime Stoppers line at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS). Callers to Crime Stoppers need not reveal their identity and may become eligible for a cash reward.
