Creighton RCMP saw a sharp decrease in overall service calls in November.

A total of 83 calls were reported through the month of November from the four communities served by the detachment – Creighton, the Denare Beach municipality, Amisk Lake reserve area and Sturgeon Landing. That number is less than half the total calls that occured in June, the detachment’s busiest month this year when nearly 200 calls were made.

In November, 51 of the 83 calls came from Creighton itself. Four assaults were reported, including a bar fight still under police investigation. Other assault calls included a fight between two siblings, an alleged assault involving a person and their stepfather, and an domestic violence incident.

Eight mischief calls were made, each involving intoxicated people in unwanted areas.

A single break-and-enter call was made, but later proved to be unfounded. A police report supplied by the detachment to The Reminder stated the caller was discovered to be suffering from a suspected mental health issue and “was seeing things that were not actually there.”

Other cases included mental health issues, assorted breaches, harassing communications, a suspected fraud, public mischief, resisting police and traffic offences, the latter including 11 tickets written in the community last month.

Down the road in Denare Beach, officers responded to 21 calls in the Amisk Lake area and nine in the Denare Beach municipality. Most of the Amisk Lake calls were mischief calls, with charges laid in an assault case where a man was reported to have beaten a relative with a baseball bat.

Two thefts were reported in the municipal area, both relating to ATVs. First, an ATV snow plow was reported to have been taken from a home. Later, another ATV was reported stolen. An investigation is ongoing.

Cases including breaches, a peace bond issue, harassing communications and a later-disproved allegation of criminal harassment were included in the monthly report.

Only two calls came in from Sturgeon Landing, each stemming from the same incident. The first call alleged that money had been stolen from someone who came back to Sturgeon Landing to visit family. The second call reported that the person suspected to have taken the money was intoxicated and causing issues. Officers found the person, who was remanded into custody.

The detachment has exceeded one of the goals outlined in their Annual Performance Plan (APP). RCMP have now conducted 498 curfew checks in the past fiscal year, higher than the detachment’s goal of 400. A total of 112 checks were carried out in November alone.

Officers carried out one priority remand, putting the detachment at 10 throughout the fiscal year, and gave out four vehicle defect notices.
