Creighton council approved a landscaping facelift for Main Street at their regular meeting, Wednesday, July 8. Work is expected to be finished next month.

New lampposts, stone work and planters will update the street’s look from the four-stop all the way to the end of the block by Canada Post.

The project, with a budget of about $50,000, will also include solar lighting to reduce the cost of hydro bills.

Canada Post

Council received a letter from Canada Post stating it was considering reducing the hours the Creighton office is open during the week.

“That will limit the opportunities shift workers have to get to
the post office,” said mayor Bruce Fidler.

Fidler said he and council will gather their thoughts together and send a letter to Canada Post in response, asking for the hours to remain as they are.

Spray pool

Council read a letter from an area resident who was disappointed when he showed up to take his children to the Lions Spray Pool to find out it was closed for a party.

“It’s frustrating to show up at a pool with your kids in their swimsuits, find it well-populated, and have to explain to them that they’re apparently not allowed to go in,” read the letter to council from James Ballard.

Town Administrator Paula Muench pointed out that the time of the incident described in the letter occurred before the pool had opened to the public.

The letter did go on to say it had also happened before.

Animal control

It was a quiet month for animal control officer with only two calls, – one regarding an issue of a barking dog and another call to notify the issue had been resolved.

School recognition

The town received a certificate of recognition from Creighton Community School for its contributions to the school.
