Excellence runs in the family for Lauren Fox.

Fox, a Grade 10 student at Creighton Community School, was presented with the Lieutenant Governor’s Award of Excellence during a ceremony at the school on Oct. 17.

Saskatchewan Lieutenant Governor Vaughn Solomon Schofield presented Fox with the award personally, when she visited Creighton specifically for the presentation.

“We benefit from strong leaders every day,” said Schofield, “but it’s very important to remember that you don’t need a special title to be a leader.”

Schofield described Fox as “an individual who has shown leadership at home, at school and in the community.”

Never content with just one hobby, Fox maintains several interests, including singing in choir, playing the tuba and piano, refereeing minor hockey games, and competing in swimming, hockey and golf, in which she won a silver medal during a provincial tournament earlier this year.

In between her hobbies, Fox manages to maintain a grade average over 90 per cent. She plans to become an orthodontist after graduating.

“It made me feel extra special about what I had achieved. She [Lieutenant Governor Schofield] was recognizing me. That was pretty awesome,” said Fox.

Fox is not the first member of her family to earn the award - her older brother Brad earned a similar honour from the Lieutenant Governor when he was a Creighton student.

“It really is an honour. My brother won it and I feel like I’m carrying on the title,” said Lauren.

“I kind of feel more proud that my brother won it first. I feel like it’s more special because we both did it.”
