Good work

Teacher Anita Nickerson and students Mike Manns and Kaylee Banting gave trustees an overview of Student Leadership Council activities for the past school year.

One of the highlights was their attendance at a student leadership conference in Nipawin. Coming out of this conference, they pledged to make a difference in their school, community and the world at large.

At the school level they have helped organize activities such as dances, the Welcome Back to School Barbecue and the 12 Days of Christmas activities.

At the community level they have helped raise money for the Canadian Cancer Society and put together a Christmas hamper for a needy family.

At the global level they are planning on raising funds to purchase a ShelterBox through an international disaster relief charity.

Practical options

Teacher Ryan Biberdorf gave a brief overview of the opportunities for students in the Practical Arts program.

While all students can choose to take Practical Arts courses, the courses are designed to let students explore careers in various trades.

Programming continues to expand each year. During this past school year Hudbay donated equipment that will allow students to practice duct work and explore a career in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC).

Early start

Trustees have approved the 2015-16 school calendar.

For the past several years school has started after Labour Day, but due to the lateness of Labour Day this year, the province has decided that school will start for students on Sept. 1, 2015.

Labour Day will be Sept. 7. The other elements of the school calendar are very similar to recent years.
