At the latest Creighton school board meeting, held Nov. 25, high school counsellor Joe Kowalchuk presented the results of his annual graduate tracking survey.

The survey is designed to provide the school with information as to how well it is preparing students for the future.

Of last year’s 15 Creighton Community School graduates, seven are attending university, one is in college, two returned for academic upgrading and five entered the workforce.

In five years’ time this group of graduates will be surveyed again to determine if they have had success in their post-secondary studies, or if any of those who chose to enter the workforce have returned to school for further post-secondary training.

Reading assessment

Principal Jason Straile presented results from the November 2015 Fountas and Pinnell levelled reading assessment for students in grades 2 and 3.

The province has set a target that 85 per cent of all Grade 3 students be reading at or above grade level by the year 2020.

The November 2015 results indicate that 92.9 per cent of Creighton’s Grade 3 students are reading at or above grade level, and 79.4 per cent of Grade 2 students are reading at that level.

Any student who scores below grade-level expectations receives a one-on-one or small group intervention tutorial.

Annual report

School division director Bob Smith presented the completed 2014-15 annual report.

The report included information on student achievement and the division’s transportation operations, major capital projects and audited financial statements. Once submitted to the Ministry of Education, the report will be tabled in the legislature in the spring of 2016.

The report will be shared with community stakeholders at a meeting in January, and will be posted on the division’s website once it has been tabled in the legislature.
