Creighton Community school (CCS) held a general assembly in the gymnasium on Friday, April 22, which was also Earth Day. The Student Leadership Council (SLC) under the direction of Sara Thirnbeck proceeded to tell the students all about recycling and the fact that: "The planet belongs to everyone and it is our job to keep it clean!" The students all gave examples on how and what to recycle, and why. They stated the fact that "we are running out of space for garbage and we need to reduce, reuse and recycle." They advised the students at the assembly not to buy things they don't need and to recycle things such as books (give them to the library once you've read them) or toys. "If you are tired of your toys, give them to someone else or trade them!" And the SLC has decided that each and every "Earth Day" from now on, the students will plant a tree. This year they chose a willow tree. Mrs. Robillard talked to the students about the Green Project which is obviously a topic well known at Creighton Community school, especially since it was announced that Creighton Community School leads the way, in that they (the students and staff) have many more volunteer hours on this project that do any of the schools in this area! Congratulations, teachers, staff, students and parents for encouraging this worthwhile project! As the principal, Mr. Row, stated: "The results of the Greening Project will not be seen for a few years, it is nonetheless a wonderful idea and the students should be very proud of their hard work!" Creighton Community School actually has an Environmental Caretaker Student who is Michael Carriere. Michael was presented with a certificate and the first CCS water bottle.
