Few serious offences were reported to Creighton RCMP in December, which saw 52 total calls come in.
Only one break and enter was reported in Creighton, Denare Beach or Sturgeon Landing in December. The incident involved a truck driving through the gate at the Creighton landfill at speed.
“Charges will be laid on this matter,” reads the report.
Three assaults were reported in Creighton, including an incident in the cellblock at the RCMP detachment. One prisoner is facing extra charges after allegedly punching another prisoner.
Another assault call involved an incident in Creighton between residents of Pelican Narrows. While the incident did not involve local residents, Creighton RCMP took over investigatory jurisdiction. The third reported assault was deemed unfounded by RCMP.
Two thefts – a theft of fireworks from the Petro Canada station and a backpack taken from a home by a visitor – were also called in to RCMP. No vehicles were reported stolen.
In the report for Creighton, RCMP credit the lack of severe crime to a dearth of repeat offenders still living in the community and an increase in priority remands on offenders still in town.
“Many offenders had been released from custody and with the proactive approach of monitoring conditions, many of the habitual offenders have been lodged again,” reads the report.
“The current low crime stats can be directly correlated to these two numbers.”
Denare Beach
In December, 42 calls were reported in Denare Beach.
Five assault files were called in, including an assault by a woman on her mother, an assault by a man on his brother and a pre-teen who uttered threats against his mother. None of the three calls ended with charges. A pair of assault calls turned out to be from both sides of a domestic incident – both parties called RCMP on each other. One of the two calls led to charges.
“The bulk of the occurrences in Denare Beach seem to involve the same individuals on a routine basis,” reads the report, which also says alcohol and other intoxicants often play a role.
Several mischief calls, including an intoxicated person hoping to crash at a residence without permission and someone breaking a window at a family member’s home the home were received.
One online fraud offense and one matter of harassing communications were also reported.
Two calls were reported to RCMP from Sturgeon Landing. One file, a 911 hang up call, was deemed to be a mistake, while the other dealt with a person accused of supplying liquor to minors.
