The Saskatchewan government is privatizing 40 government-owned liquor stores across the province, but Creighton is not among them.
The province announced the store conversions on Wednesday. Affected stores include those in Hudson Bay, Melfort and Wadena.
The province also announced that new private liquor stores will open in 12 communities, including Prince Albert and Yorkton.
“Saskatchewan consumers will enjoy more choice, more convenience and more competitive pricing,” Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority (SLGA) Minister Don McMorris said.
“This new direction allows government to collect the same amount of revenue through a new wholesale markup while also correcting many inequities that have existed among the province’s various liquor retailers.”
