Nearly 30 civil servants in Creighton and Denare Beach have a new contract with the provincial government. They're among 10,000 unionized government employees across Saskatchewan who ratified the three-year deal on Monday. Yesterday, the Saskatchewan government also ratified the contract, which gives workers wage increases of zero per cent the first year and one per cent in each of the following two years. The workers will also receive a boost to their cost of living allowance the day after the deal expires, Sept. 30, 2006. The contract is retroactive to Oct. 1, 2003. The deal applies to 22 workers in Creighton in the Department of Community Resource and Employment, Corrections and Public Safety, Highways and Transportation and Saskatchewan Environment; and six Saskatchewan Environment employees in Denare Beach. (Figures as of June 30, 2004). Sixty-one per cent of Saskatchewan Government Employees Union members voted to accept the contract.
