The Town of Creighton is considering rezoning some properties.
Council received a letter from Saskatchewan Housing during its Dec. 13 meeting.
The letter, which was received as information, contained a request from Saskatchewan Housing for proposals for construction of affordable rental units.
Along with the letter, the report given from council’s Environmental, Public Health and Environmental Development Committee showed a scheduled meeting on January 3 with a developer and “consideration to the rezoning a number of residential lots from R1 to R2 to allow for multi-dwelling units.”
Under a proposed rezoning, some areas currently considered R1 lots, suitable for houses and residences, could be reclassified as R2 lots, suitable for building apartment blocks and multi-dwelling units.
It is not yet known where the proposed rezoning will be in Creighton or if any buildings will actually be rezoned.
No construction is slated to take place, yet, and council has officially made no decisions regarding the possibility of building an apartment block in Creighton. Mayor Bruce Fidler said the town was essentially dipping their feet in the water.
“It’s just something we were discussing the possibility of, if somebody would be interested in apartment blocks or whatever. We have that option,” he said.
Fidler also said discussions for some properties had taken place, but did not give further details.
“Not apartment blocks or anything, but we have had some discussions on other things. It’s only discussions right now.”
