The new green space along the west side of Creighton Avenue near the Main Street intersection will not be finished before winter.

Some final touches to the site will be completed next spring. The area was created at the same time as the water and sewer replacement project began along Creighton Avenue this past summer.

“There’s probably going to be a little bit more work done in there for this fall. It will be finished up next year,” said Creighton Mayor Bruce Fidler.

Paving project starts

One of the last major construction projects of the summer is underway in Creighton – repaving portions of Highway 167 and Creighton Avenue.

Work got underway on the 3.55 kilometre stretch of road on Sept. 18 and is expected to take between two and three weeks to complete, with almost all other town projects scheduled for this summer now finished.

“So far everything is good and should be on schedule,” said Fidler.

“Other than the beautification that we’ve done throughout the summer, finishing up the water and sewer line replacement project – that’s all been done, there’s just a bit of landscaping to finish up.”

Community centre

Council approved a donation of $21,069.22 for work on the front area of the Creighton Community Centre. The work will include a facelift for the portion of the building facing Creighton’s Main Street.

“It’s just renovating and rejuvenating the front,” said Fidler. The mayor added that the work is unrelated to damage caused to the side of the building by a vehicle earlier this year.

Banting Court

Council also passed a measure to name a street in the Creighton trailer court. The street, which was previously unnamed, will now be called Banting Court, named after Syd Banting. A former HBM&S employee and a two-term mayor of Creighton from 1974 to 1982, Banting passed away in March.

Funding request

The Town of Creighton will apply to the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) for grant money for a pair of potential projects.

Council approved two measures at the Sept. 12 meeting to pursue grants for both a green project in Creighton and support for a feasibility study for Phantom Lake.

Plans for both projects are still in early stages. Mayor Bruce Fidler said whether the projects are pursued further would greatly depend on if grant money is approved.
