Creighton Community School grads succeed: surveys

Educators work to mould their students into young men and women who will thrive in the world beyond locker-lined hallways.

And in that regard, Creighton Community School seems to be doing just fine.

Through a survey project led by school counsellor Joe Kowalchuk, CCS maintains contact with past graduates, keeping tabs on their accomplishments and life milestones.

“On the whole grad tracking is showing that CCS students are successfully transitioning to the workforce, technical college or university,” said Kowalchuk. “The exact percentages in each area changes every year based on the individual goals of that year’s grads, but indicate a high success rate.”

While some past grads can be difficult to reach if they have moved to another community, Kowalchuk said information about them is usually available from family or friends.

Purposes

Tracking graduates, he said, serves multiple purposes.

“It gives CCS feedback regarding the students’ personal evaluation of the job we did to prepare them for life after high school, and overall they report that they are pleased with the  experience,” he said. “It keeps track of initial plans and whether those plans were changed  or followed through on by the graduate. It helped us put a more formalized process in place to assist students in development of a plan for life after school, and plan individualized support to help them achieve their goals.

“When our students feel they are being successful, that is the most important category, and I applaud their success.”
