Crews set to start construction on the new Flin Flon ER could end up staying at a temporary work camp in Creighton.
Cumberland Rentals is asking the Town of Creighton for permission to set up a camp for up to 15 workers beside the water treatment plant on King Crescent.
In a letter to town council, Jeff Wood of Cumberland Rentals said the camp would set up beginning this spring and consist of several 400-sq-ft trailers.
The camp would be in place for eight to 10 months, he wrote.
The request remains at the committee level on town council, with a decision expected as early as tonight, Wednesday.
The town was checking with the provincial government to ensure the request meets all zoning requirements.
Cumberland Rentals owns the property in question but must still obtain a temporary-use permit for a work camp.
The request comes as some organizations point to an accommodations shortage in the Flin Flon-Creighton area due to last year’s abrupt closure of The Prospector Inn.
The new Flin Flon General Hospital emergency department is expected to open in late 2017 or early 2018 at a cost of $22 million.
