Some officials are already assured of their seats in the RM of Kelsey.
Official information from the RM shows sitting reeve Rod Berezowecki has been acclaimed to his post, along with Ward II councillor Neil Scott and Ward VI councillor Larry Johnson. Scott represents the north Carrot River Valley with the RM, while Johnson will continue to represent the portion of Cranberry Portage north of Highway 10.
While one Cranberry Portage seat is already spoken for, the second post, for Ward V representing the portion of the community south of Highway 10, will see some competition. Peter Bieker and Douglas McKenzie have both filed papers to run for the seat.
Incumbent Wayne Anderson and newcomer Jarret Berezowecki will run for the Ward I councillor spot, which covers Ralls Island east of The Pas. Bruce McLean will face Armand LeSann and Brently Gluska for the Ward III position for the south Carrot River Valley, while former councillor Kelvin Dionne will run against incumbent James Berscheid for Ward IV, representing Big Eddy, Umpherville and Wanless.
The RM covers about 800 square kilometres between Cranberry Portage and the Carrot River Valley south and west of The Pas.
In Cranberry Portage, all three posts on the committee for the Local Urban District (LUD) have been filled through acclamation. None of the three spots will be claimed by incumbents.
Gordon Fidierchuk, Darrell Murray and Michael Wesner will be on the committee, replacing outgoing members Jack Brown, Lloyd Johnston and Debbie McLauchlan.
Fidierchuk already serves with the LUD in multiple different positions, including as the chair of the advisory planning committee, liaison for the fire department and as a member of the roads committee. Neither Murray or Wesner currently sit on LUD committees.
Voters in Cranberry Portage can vote at the advance poll from 8 am to 8 pm Wednesday, Oct. 17 at the LUD office, and during the general election from 8 am to 8 pm on Wednesday, Oct. 24 at the Cranberry Portage Legion Hall.
In Wanless, voters can cast their ballot at the advance poll from 8 am to 8 pm on Wednesday, Oct. 17 at the RM of Kelsey office in The Pas. A polling station exclusively for Wanless residents will be open from 8 am to 8 pm on Wednesday, Oct. 24 at the Wanless Community Hall.
