Manitoba appears to be making progress on active cases of COVID-19, seeing new cases numbers begin to decline.
Thirteen new cases of COVID-19 were announced in Manitoba Wednesday, the lowest number reported by the province in days. Eight of the new cases were reported in the Prairie Mountain Health region, while four were in Winnipeg and one was found in Southern Health-Sante Sud.
The province has now reported a total of 1,244 cases during the pandemic, with 454 cases remaining active. One case was removed from provincial totals - the person who tested positive was revealed to be from out of province.
Two recently announced positive cases have been linked to health care workers at Winnipeg-area seniors facilities. One person who had tested positive worked at Fred Douglas Lodge, while the other worked at the Beacon Hill Lodge long term care. Contact tracing and investigations into the cases are now underway. Both facilities are now identified as "red" - at critical level - under the province's pandemic response system.
For the second consecutive day, the province did not give information on how many people are hospitalized due to COVID-19 or how many people are in intensive care, citing a "technical issue."
Two possible exposure sites were announced by health officials Sept. 2 - the Canoe Taphouse in Wasagaming from August 21-23 and the Buffalo Bar and Ten Restaurant at the Elkhorn Resort Spa and Conference Centre August 21-22. Anyone who attended these businesses during those times is asked to isolate and self-monitor for possible COVID-19 symptoms.
Saskatchewan reported only two new cases of the disease Sept. 2 - one in the north west region and another in south central Saskatchewan. The province is now down to 29 active cases with two people in hospital with COVID-19, including one in intensive care.
