After recent increases in COVID-19 cases in Manitoba and Saskatchewan, Tuesday brought some good news - no new cases in Manitoba and only one in Saskatchewan.
The sole case reported by either province June 16 was found in Saskatoon. No new cases have been reported in either province's northern regions.
Two new recoveries from the disease were reported in Saskatchewan Tuesday, while no new recoveries were reported in Manitoba.
Manitoba's total number of active cases is down to just five. Out of 304 total cases reported in Manitoba, 292 cases have ended with the person affected recovering. Seven people have died in Manitoba due to COVID-19.
In Saskatchewan, 40 cases of COVID-19 remain active, with more than half of those cases - 22 in the far north and one in the north region - in northern communities. No confirmed cases have been reported in Creighton, Denare Beach, Pelican Narrows, Sandy Bay or any other Saskatchewan community near Flin Flon.
Saskatchewan has reported 684 total cases of COVID-19 during the outbreak, with 389 cases in northern communities. Twelve people are confirmed to have died from the disease in Saskatchewan.
Reopening
The Saskatchewan government will move ahead with the next phase of its provincial reopening plan next week.
Phase four of the Reopen Saskatchewan plan is currently set to start June 22. The introduction of phase four will take place in multiple parts, starting with reopening of child and youth day camps, outdoor pools, spray pads and seasonal recreation, sports and similar activities.
The second part of phase four, date to be determined, is expected to including reopening indoor pools, hockey rinks, libraries, galleries, indoor movie theatres, casinos, bingo halls and museums. Gathering sizes are also expected to be increased, going from 15 people maximum for indoor gatherings and 30 outdoors to 30 people indoors and 60 outdoors. It is unknown when the second phase will go into effect.
