A Pelican Narrows man has been honoured for racing into a burning home on the reserve to help a mother and her daughter escape.
Larry Custer recently accepted a bravery medal, bestowed by the Royal Canadian Humane Association, from Saskatchewan Lieutenant Governor Vaughn Solomon Schofield, CBC reports.
Custer entered the burning home last January, and while four people made it out alive, two children sleeping in the attic did not, according to CBC.
An award also went to RCMP officer Mike Keeling, who in June helped an unconscious woman escape a burning home in Deschambault Lake, CBC reports.
