Some South Hudson Street residents won't be getting a back lane any time soon. Flin Flon City Council on Tuesday refused to include in this year's budget a request for back lane access on a section of the street. "I don't think, given that we've gone through the budgeting process with some of the intentions with what we want to do for the upcoming year, that it makes any sense to carry this forward," said Councillor Cal Huntley. "We have much, much more pressing items than this," said Councillor Tom Therien. The discussion came after council reviewed a letter from a local law firm stating that three South Hudson Street residents are requesting back lane access. "Given that the City will be experiencing a significant increase in revenues from the shopping mall taxes, we would ask that our clients' request for the back alley be put into this year's budget," read the letter. The three residents named in the letter live on the stretch of South Hudson Street between Phelps Avenue and Douglas Street. Mayor Dennis Ballard commented there are "hidden lanes all over town" and that "this particular one is a huge pile of rock which would cost a lot of money to blast." Council referred the letter to the administration, which will write the law firm to advise that the City has no plans to undertake this project in the upcoming year.
