Creighton town council approved a motion at the Feb. 28 council meeting to purchase a new portable pressure boiler.

The boiler, which comes with a net price tag of $45,500, will be used to steam culverts.

It has been more than two decades since the town purchased its current boiler, which has seen frequent use over that time.

“We got our money out of it, that’s for sure,” said Coun. Darren Grant.

Council members have not finalized plans for the unit, including whether or not it will be scrapped. Some members of council mentioned using the existing boiler as a backup unit for the new boiler, or to use along with the new boiler to double possible amounts of work.

Community centre

The town will cover operating expenses for the Creighton Community Centre.

A $10,000 donation was made to the community centre board, an annual subsidy given to the centre to cover the venue’s annual operation costs.

Coun. Shirley Owen, who serves as president of the community centre board, recused herself from the vote.

Rate amendment

Council approved a slight change to a recently passed motion.

The motion deals with lease rates for various types of properties in the community.

A misprint in the motion relating to the industrial lease rate was corrected. The previous motion falsely indicated the rate would be increasing to $405.57 per acre, which was the existing rate.

The amended rate will see prices for industrial property go from the existing $405.57 per acre to $417.74 per acre.

“We just changed it to properly reflect the increase,” said Cindy Davis, town clerk for the Town of Creighton.
