Creighton council got down to business Wednesday night as it approved nearly $20,000 for an assessment and analysis to be done one on building.
Council approved the motion to hire Associated Engineering to perform the Building Condition Assessment and Energy Analysis Services for the Sportex with a price tag of nearly $19,800, before taxes.
Council also approved the motion to award the tender for wrought iron fencing around the columbarium site.
The winning bid will set the town back $36,468.97, plus taxes.
Highlights
Other highlights from council’s Wednesday meeting included a clean up and a zero-tolerance policy amendment.
• Council approved the motion to amend the zero tolerance policy by adding the word abuse to cover areas of speeding or reckless driving of town vehicles and equipment as well as the excessive use of cell phones and iPads during work hours.
• Council named Stuart Rutherford as the temporary public works operator as of July 7.
• Council approved a motion to give a written notice to an employee regarding driving and speeding in town
vehicles. The motion noted that the letter of notice would be kept on the employee’s personnel file.
Fire Report
The Creighton Fire Department saw seven calls from May 12 through to June 18 as firefighters were busy.
The following calls were attended:
• May 12, 14 firefighters responded for two hours to a fire in a resident’s wood pile.
• May 16, 13 firefighters assisted the Flin Flon Fire Department on a grassfire on South Main street.
• May 20, six firemen responded for three hours to a call at the ice house by Spirit Lake as dust was burning.
• May 23, fire chief Robert Larocque responded to a possible propane leak at Northland College’s residence. The leak was caused by hot temperatures and the heaters being left on.
• May 24, a second call to the ice house by Spirit Lake saw 13 firefighters respond for one hour before allowing the Flin Flon Fire Department to control the fire.
• May 31, 16 firefighters responded for six hours to a fire in Channing to assist the Flin Flon Fire Department.
• June 18, 10 men responded to a residential call on Collins Street, but found the owner was cooking supper.
