Jonathon Naylor Editor Mounties in The Pas have seized a cache of illegal firearms while their counterparts in Thompson investigate an assault that saw a man's clothes lit on fire. Last Thursday, Sept. 6, police seized 23 firearms from a residence in The Pas _ 18 long-barreled firearms and five handguns _ as well as numerous rounds of ammunition. Four suspects were arrested, two of whom have been released unconditionally. A 21-year-old male will be facing 21 firearms-related offences, while a 53-year-old man has been charged with 22 firearms-related offences. Meanwhile, a man has been released from hospital after his clothes were lit on fire by unidentified assailants in Thompson. On Sept. 1, Thompson RCMP responded to a report of a disturbance outside a motel. Mounties arrived on scene and found a 26-year-old Thompson man suffering from burn injuries. He was transported the Thompson General Hospital, where he was treated and released. Officers determined that an altercation occurred involving a group of males. The victim was sprayed with a flammable substance and a match was thrown at him, causing his clothes to catch fire. A friend of the victim intervened and was able to extinguish the flames. Police are now searching for four suspects, all males. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Thompson RCMP at 204-677-6909.
