A vigilant group of volunteers will give an early Christmas present to Flin Flonners who want a safer community.
The reborn Citizens On Patrol Program (COPP) plans to begin regular patrols on Dec. 19.
COPP reports preliminary work to formally initiate the organization is almost complete:
• COPP is gathering scheduling info from membership to begin street patrols Friday, Dec. 19. The public will see
groups in yellow vests patrolling the community that day to initiate public awareness that the group has been established.
• A rough budget for the first year of operation has been drafted and formal requests for donations have been initiated.
• Initial equipment and clothing required to start patrols have arrived.
• There are plans in the near future to install signs throughout the community notifying the public of COPP’s presence and protection by patrol.
• Two sessions of training by a regional trainer have been completed and 71 per cent of COPP membership is ready for street patrols.
• A membership meeting has been scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 10 at 7 pm at the Flin Flon City Hall council chambers to finalize the executive, bylaws, patrol procedures and a patrol schedule. Anyone 18 and older and interested in joining the group is welcome to attend.
• The group has 28 members with an executive made up of Ben McCutcheon (chair); Sinclair James (vice-chair); Lois (Bunny) Burke (treasurer); Catherine Daneliuk (secretary); Dave Etienne (marketing and recruiting); Bruce Reid (patrol scheduling); and Cpl. Steve Brushett and Cst. Glenn Colvin (RCMP liaisons).
