A cooking fire grew out of control early Tuesday evening, destroying an older Adams Street home beyond repair. Fire Chief Jim Petrie reported that the blaze, which he said caused at least $100,000 in damages, started when the occupant of the home left cooking on the stove. The interior main floor, he said, became totally involved with flames, as did the attic. Firefighters spent about 20 minutes knocking down the flames and another 90 minutes ensuring any and all hot spots had been snuffed out.
