Slow sales have brought an end to regular business hours at the Creighton Sportex concession. The food establishment has traditionally opened daily during the fall and winter, but no one put in a tender to do so this year. The town will now issue a revised tender asking only that bidders operate the concession when there are events at the Sportex, such as weekend hockey tournaments. Town council has also approved the placement of a privately owned snack vending machine in the arena lobby. The concession was one item of discussion at last week's Creighton town council meeting. Other highlights included: Council voted to spend about $800 for a cell phone booster to be installed at the Sportex, ensuring cellular calls can be made and received from inside the building. The unit is expected to be in place in the near future. Mayor Bruce Fidler reported that work on the new Collins Street subdivision is slightly ahead of schedule. Work will continue until weather no longer permits. Contractors will return to the site next year, following the spring thaw. The town expects to spend just over $1.5 million to develop 15 new lots on what is now bushland at the north end of Collins Street. The lots are to be ready for sale for $60,000 apiece starting next year. Council voted to sponsor the Flin Flon Minor Hockey Association to the tune of $100 this season. Council is also donating $100 to the Kid's Help Phone counselling service. It was noted that the new sidewalk along Creighton Avenue was expected to be completed this week.
