Flin Flon city council is being asked to follow Creighton’s lead and tear down anti-nuclear-waste signs that bear the symbol for radiation.
Council on Tuesday reviewed a letter from the Community Liaison Committee (CLC)
urging the removal of such signs from
public places.
“Over-use or the inappropriate use of this symbol could lead to citizens becoming complacent when encountering this symbol in situations where caution truly should be exercised,” wrote George Trevor and Rod Gourlay, co-chairs of the CLC, a bridge between the public and nuclear-waste officials.
Council had no comment on the letter, referring it to the committee level for further deliberation.
Creighton town council has already decided to heed the CLC’s request, ordering its public works department to remove signs that feature the radiation symbol, known as the trefoil.
Creighton continues to learn more about the potential of storing Canada’s nuclear waste in an underground repository.
