The following press release was received from the City of Flin Flon concerning the proposed Communityplex for the Flin Flon-Creighton region. The councils of Flin Flon and Creighton feel it is desirable at this time to reaffirm ownership of and continuing formal support and agreement for the proposed Communityplex. There has been relatively little information put out to the public until now, because we have been awaiting government support/approval. We are still awaiting that support and without it, it will be extremely difficult for the renewal and upgrade of our facilities to go forward. Both councils unanimously support the concept of the project and the process being followed. Both councils agree that serious steps must be taken if quality recreation is to remain an important part of our communities. The cost of operating and maintaining our aging facilities is going to be a real challenge. Both councils agree with the philosophy of our communities working together toward common goals, and both have applied to our respective governments for infrastructure funding. The project is being overseen by a committee made up of taxpayers from both communities. Future information on the progress of the project, including details of design, will be provided through the media as available. Part of the process will be a formal opportunity for anyone who wishes to have input to be able to do so. As many people are aware, generalized plans have been available for viewing by the public for several months. We urge interested parties to review these plans and comment on them. If our communities are to have modern recreational facilities, strong support by the public and all government entities will be essential.7/27/2004
