Following the announcement that Creighton is out of the running for nuclear waste storage, town council has disbanded the Community Liaison Committee (CLC).
Council passed the motion at its meeting last Wednesday, March 11, eight days after the Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NWMO) withdrew from the
community.
With members from Creighton, Flin Flon and Denare Beach, the CLC acted as a bridge between the public and NWMO. The CLC held what turned out to be its final meeting on Jan. 22.
Town council also voted to disband the Creighton Police Board following word the group would no longer operate.
Ald. Don Aasen “regretfully” seconded the motion.
“It’s kind of sad,” said Aasen.
“It is unfortunate,” said Mayor Bruce Fidler, “But it speaks well. If we had a lot of problems…people would want to sit [on the board].”
Funds left over from the police board will be split between Creighton Community School and the purchase of a digital speed display sign.
Council approved a recommendation to purchase the digital sign for $3,000. The sign will be rotated throughout various locations in an effort to reduce speeding.
Creighton Community School will receive the balance of the $6,048 and put it toward costs such as guest speakers and graduation.

Other highlights from the town council meeting:
• Council granted the Creighton Community School Kodiaks football team permission to hold a spring clean-up in support of the club.
• Creighton will take part in the Mayor’s Poetry Challenge for World Poetry Day on March 21, though as of the March 11 meeting a representative had not been selected. A suggestion was made to ask a student from Creighton Community School.
• Creighton will donate a used automated external defibrillator (AED) from the Sportex to the Phantom Lake Golf Course in time for the upcoming golf season.
