After just a couple weeks in operation, the newly-revamped Flin Flon Community Clinic has been busy, but its proprietor is pleased with the success.

The clinic, located in the H.M. Davidson Building at 31 Church Street - directly across from Flin Flon General Hospital - opened for the first time under new ownership Feb. 8, taking appointments and opening one day a week for walk-ins. Caitlyn Davidson Meyer, the owner of the clinic and the family doctor for the practice, said the response she had received so far was encouraging.

“We have had a very positive response from the community so far,” she said.

Davidson Meyer, a Flin Flon-born and raised physician, operates the clinic and first announced plans to reopen the clinic as a family medical practice last year.

Davidson Meyer is the fourth member of her family to pursue medical practice, dating back through her father, grandfather and great-grandfather who all worked as pharmacists. Both her father and grandfather worked in Flin Flon - the building the clinic is located in is named after her grandfather.

Davidson Meyer graduated from Hapnot Collegiate in 2010, then headed to Saskatoon for study at the Univ. of Saskatchewan. She holds a bachelor’s degree in science and nutrition and, in 2020, received her medical degree. She recently finished a residency in Prince Albert through the U of S’ family medicine program.

In September, Davidson Meyer said her plans were to run a full-scope family practice and to attract other medical professionals to the area to work at the clinic, working together in practice.

Now, in February, Davidson Meyer said the opening of the clinic wasn’t always perfectly smooth - the clinic building has recently been renovated and there were occasional hiccups, but the practice has been packed and running, for the most part, smoothly.

“It has been very busy and we appreciate the understanding while we work through the growing pains. It has been very encouraging and I look forward to the relationships I am fortunate to foster as a family physician,” she said.

The clinic is open Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and on Thursdays from 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Thursdays will also include walk-in hours at the clinic, operating from 3:30 p.m.-7 p.m.

Appointments can be booked by calling the clinic at (204) 687-7571 - appointments will be booked until the patient list is full, then callers will be added to a waitlist and can still come in for walk-in hours.
