The local branch of the Royal Canadian Legion plans to commemorate the 60th anniversary of D-Day with a parade and flag-raising ceremony next month. The Legion has requested Flin Flon City Council proclaim the week of Sept. 19-25 as Veteran's Week and grant permission for an afternoon parade on the last day of the special week. The parade will take marchers from the Legion Hall down Main St. to City Hall, where the Canadian flag will be ceremoniously raised. The marchers will then continue down Hapnot St. and conclude their walk at the Legion. At this week's city council meeting, Mayor Dennis Ballard noted that most of the Legion's requests have already been approved. D-Day occured on June 6, 1944, when the Battle of Normandy began, commencing the liberation of mainland Europe from Nazi occupation during World War II.
