The Co-op is in the final stages of talks to purchase Advance Automotive in Creighton and turn it into a cardlock gas outlet as soon as next spring. If the agreement goes ahead, Advance Automotive would then move its operation to the Co-op Gas Bar on Main Street. "We've had a lot of pressure from the residents of Creighton and Denare Beach to have a cardlock facility, and we're just trying to meet those requests," said Co-op general manager Greg Baribeau. Assuming the deal goes through, the best case scenario would see construction on the cardlock outlet begin in the spring of next year. The work would likely take several weeks to complete. Like the Co-op's existing cardlock outlet on Timber Lane, customers would purchase gas by simply swiping their Co-op gas cards at any time of the day or night. The plan is to install two pumps offering regular, premium, and diesel gasolines. Baribeau envisions gas sales "growing substantially" if the project comes to fruition, mentioning the requests from residents for the service and the traffic flow through Creighton from the Hanson Lake Road. The move would mean some Co-op jobs would be eliminated, as the cardlock would not require attendants like the full-service gas bar. Baribeau said the Co-op would again consider offering full service if the demand is there.
