The NorthMart store in The Pas is closing but will be converted into a family discount store. The North West Company will close the store by the end of January 2005 and plans to will reopen it as a Giant Tiger outlet. CBC quoted company officials as saying the store's grocery section won't be needed once the new Extra Foods opens in The Pas. The move is not expected to mean a loss of jobs, as NorthMart employees are encouraged to apply to work at the Giant Tiger store, which will focus on clothing.
