The Flin Flon area became safer for child passengers on Saturday thanks to police and firefighters. The protective service workers held a clinic at the Wal-Mart parking lot to help ensure parents were properly using their child restraint seats. Organizers said that most of the parents who stopped by did not have the seats installed correctly. Most required some type of adjustment while other seats had expired. This wasn't necessarily surprising, as field data shows that less than 10 per cent of child restraint systems are used accurately. The men and women who held the clinic recently completed the Children's Restraint System Technician Training Course in Flin Flon. The course was put on by MPI and St. John's Ambulance. Parents who missed Saturday's clinic may contact any of the following to make arrangements to ensure their car seat is safely installed: Town of Creighton, 688-8253; Albert Murphy, 687-0568; Flin Flon Fire Department, 681-7535; Flin Flon RCMP, 687-7488. Pictured (left to right) at the clinic are: Fran Wilcox, Creighton Fire Department; Lt. Albert Murphy and Trevor Brown, Flin Flon Fire Department; Cst. Susan Klemmer and Cst. Nolan Suss, Flin Flon RCMP. Missing are: Cpt. Brian Mackie, Kelly Eastman and Shelly Karlson, Flin Flon Fire Department; and Andre Blouin, Creighton Fire Department.
