Flin Flon’s most famous son isn’t moving back home, despite a major newspaper report to the contrary.
Toronto Sun sports columnist Steve Simmons reported on June 24 that Bob Clarke would be relocating to Flin Flon.
“Who says you can’t go home? After all these years in Philadelphia, the 67-year-old Bobby Clarke is moving back to Flin Flon, Man.,” wrote Simmons in the “Scene and Heard” section of his column.
The Reminder sought to confirm the news with the Philadelphia Flyers, who employ Clarke as senior vice-president.
Flyers communications director Zack Hill forwarded an email from Clarke correcting the report: “Got a cabin for the summer not moving back.”
Informed of Clarke’s statement, Simmons told The Reminder he would write a correction.
Simmons said he got his initial information from “a well established Philadelphia beat writer who has known Clarke forever. We actually talked about coming to Flin Flon and doing a piece on this.”
Clarke was born and raised in Flin Flon and became a superstar with the Bombers in the 1960s. He left Flin Flon in 1969 to begin what would be a 15-year playing career with the Flyers.
Since his retirement as a player in 1984, Clarke has been an NHL coach and general manager. He resigned as Flyers general manager in 2006 and was named senior vice-president of the club.
