The City of Flin Flon will be bringing in an outside company to go over its own operations with a fine-toothed comb later this year.
City council, working off a recommendation from the City’s finance committee, has approved a measure calling in consulting firm BDO Canada to conduct what the City calls “an assessment on productivity and efficiencies”.
The assessment is expected to start next month and last until mid-summer. No specific departments or sections of City operations were announced as part of the review, but senior staffers said the goal is to increase efficiencies within the municipality.
“It's everything from staffing to our processes of how we do things,” said City chief administrative officer Nicole Hartman.
“They’re going to look at everything and tell us where we can do things more efficiently, where we’re doing well, kind of go through each department and everything we’re doing and give us some feedback for where we can be better.”
No dollar amount was announced in connection to how much the review may cost the City.
BDO Canada is the Canadian subsidiary of international accounting, business advisory, tax and consulting firm BDO. The Canadian group is one of the country’s largest accounting services firm and has almost a hundred offices across Canada, including 11 locations in Manitoba and another in Saskatchewan.
“They’re going to have some questions for us and do some preliminary work.”
Last December, the City announced a similar review would be held for Flin Flon’s public transit and bus system. It is not known whether the review has already taken place or will take place soon - results from any such review have not been shared at city council meetings.
“We want to ensure that we're doing everything to the best cost-effectiveness that we can,” said City treasurer and assistant CAO Lyn Brown in December about the bus cost review.
