Flin Flonner Becky Cianflone will join the governing council for University College of the North (UCN).
The executive director of Community Futures Greenstone was one of five new appointments to the school’s board announced by the provincial government on Aug. 17.
Cianflone will join Cranberry Portage-based Tracey Como on the board as members appointed by the Lieutenant Governor in Council. In addition to her work with Community Futures in Flin Flon and in southern Manitoba, Cianflone has also served on committees and in positions with the Flin Flon and District Chamber of Commerce, the provincial Look North Task Force and Travel Manitoba.
Cianflone will be one of two Flin Flon-based representatives with the UCN governing council, joining sitting council chair and former Hudbay chief operating officer Tom Goodman.
Members of the governing council hold overall responsibility for UCN operations. Some council members are appointed by provincial authorities, while others serve as representatives of the staff, student body and communities covered by UCN.
The council meets monthly on Thursdays, with meetings rotating between The Pas and Thompson, home of UCN’s two main campuses. UCN’s council will next meet on Sept. 27 in Thompson.
