January proved to be a quiet month for the Flin Flon Fire Department, city council learned Tuesday. At their regular meeting, council reviewed the fire chief's latest monthly reported, which detailed four incidents: Jan. 11, 11:45 AM: A caller stated the alarms were ringing inside of a business at the Flintoba Shopping Centre. Upon arrival, firefighters determined that the alarm was false. The fire chief and seven firefighters responded. Jan. 11, 6:40 PM: A caller stated the ambulance required assistance on First Avenue. Upon arrival, firefighters assisted with a patient. The on-call officer and 16 firefighters responded. Jan. 13, 11:27 PM: A caller stated there was a chimney fire on Norma Avenue. Upon arrival, firefighters quickly extinguished it. The on-call officer and 13 firefighters responded. Jan. 28, 2:45 PM: A caller stated smoke was coming from an apartment at Aspen Grove. Upon arrival, the fire chief found smoke emanating from the furnace. The furnace emergency disconnect and propane were immediately turned off. This extinguished the fire, which was confined to the furnace area and was caused by paper being left in the furnace when it was serviced. The fire chief and eight firefighters responded.
