Two weeks into a holiday campaign designed to make roads safer, Creighton RCMP have laid about 20 Highway Traffic Act charges. On December 1, police began setting up random check-stops as part of a nationwide program known as STEP (Selective Traffic Enforcement Program). Cst. Richard Price said the majority of motorists stopped by police have been obeying the traffic laws. So far, one motorist has been charged with impaired driving while two others have been handed 24-hour suspensions for alcohol-related offenses, he said. See 'Services' P.# Con't from P.# Cst. Price encourages residents who are unfit to go behind the wheel to make use of taxi services or Operation Red Nose, which drives people home in their own vehicles. He noted that the check-stops have been held in conjunction with the Flin Flon RCMP, with officers from both detachments assisting one another. The aim of STEP is to turn Canada's roads into the safest in the world by 2010.
