May was a busy month for Creighton RCMP, who responded to more than 130 calls over 31 days.

The majority of calls received in May by Creighton RCMP came from Denare Beach, where police responded to 87 calls.

The largest volume of calls were due to mischief offences – in total, 17 mischief calls were made to police in May. Most involved intoxicated people refusing to leave homes, with some reports of broken windows being made.

Eight assault calls were lodged, with one assault on an officer reported. A person in the process of being arrested for another offence began kicking officers during the arrest.

“There is no tolerance for assaulting a police officer and charges are already laid,” reads the report.

Three reports that were later determined to be unfounded were attended, including one false report and one unsolved due to what was labelled as “witness reasons” in the report.

The remainder of the assault calls included an instance of two women fighting where charges were laid and another fight between two women where no charges were filed. Two assault calls were made after two brothers fought each other, but neither pressed charges.

According to the report, many offences, including several of the assault and mischief calls received, are traceable back to one residence.

One missing persons case in the community was resolved, as well as matters involving liquor offences and a violation of the Fire Prevention Act.

Two assaults, a bar fight and a scrap between two cousins in the middle of a street, were reported in the Denare Beach municipal area. One of the combatants in the second report was spotted by RCMP hitting the other and was taken to lockup for the night.

A pair of break-ins, both to cabin properties near the village, were called in. Officers seized evidence from both scenes.

“The detachment hopes to have both matters solved and charges laid as soon as the exhibits can be processed,” reads the detachment’s report.

Calls relating to property damage were also received by police, including cases of damage to two vehicles and a vacant house. Police were called after some small children were reported to be throwing sticks at a streetlight and when an intoxicated man was threatening to damage a vehicle.

Thefts included reports of a woman taking her sister’s car without permission and of a stolen t-shirt. RCMP also investigated several other calls, including mental health-related incidents, suspicious persons, false alarms and a report of gunshots being fired.

In Creighton, RCMP responded to 48 calls, including four impaired driving files. Two were later deemed unfounded, while one driver was charged. Ten liquor offences were issued and four mischief files, all involving intoxicated people who refused to leave.
